2022 FLETCHER C22 Langhe DOC Chardonnay - PIEDMONT – BARBARESCO ITALY
The grapes (all Burgundian clones) are pressed in whole bunches before the juice settles naturally for four hours. A spontaneous alcoholic fermentation with indigenous yeasts is completed in French barriques, of which 30% is new and 70% old, before resting for another ten months in the barriques on the lees, without any stirring, and racked only just before bottling. No fining or filtration.
Classic chardonnay flavours with a distinctive structure on the palate. Bright flavours of grapefruit and lemon merge with those of fresh stone fruits and melon. The flavours are pronounced but with the depth and structure of the palate balancing this perfectly. This wine will age gracefully and develop over many years to come.

After stints in Australia David Fletcher flew in 2007 to Piedmont to work his first vintage at the world famous Cerrato estate and to this day is the winemaker there. After falling in love with Nebbiolo and the region he moved his family and begun his dream of making his own wines and establish an estate in Barbaresco. What has to be said is that as an Australian living in the region he was very much the outsider. How dare an Australian make Barbaresco and label under his own name? Just a few of the speed bumps along the way. Cerrato have been so supportive of David’s project and up the 2017 vintage all the wines are vinified by David at Cerrato. However this was only the beginning.
